Facebook Comments: Good or Bad for Your Business?
Facebook is in the news yet again. The world's leading social network last week updated its comment widget to allow personalized chats on third-party websites. Facebook says the free plugin will make life easy for publishers to add Facebook-themed commenting functionality to their websites. As with any Facebook feature, there are mixed reactions on whether the new comment widget is - good, bad or neutral, especially for business users. Here's my take on it. How does Facebook Comment Plugin work? Anonymous comments can often be rude, abusive and unpleasant. Facebook says it updated the Comments Box Plug-in, which links comments made on third party websites to a member's Facebook account, to encourage personal and relevant conversations. But in most cases, it's not as simple as getting on once a week for an hour, posting a bunch of 'interesting' information, and getting on with your life hoping that the leads will start flowing in. Facebook is a remarkable tool for creating a 'buzz' about your small business and inviting new friends to check out your services, but done in the wrong way Facebook can also hurt your overall brand image. Facebook reaches millions upon millions of people: 500 million to be exact. And 200 million Facebook users are mobile, getting their Facebook fix from their Android, iPhone, and Windows devices. According to the Facebook Press Room, in 2010 the average Facebook user was connected to 80 community pages, groups, and events; created 90 pieces of content...

How to Use Twitter for Business - 5 Tips For Twitter Newcomers
Twitter is a wonderful business tool, not least because it's free. All it will cost is your time (and if that's in short supply, you can hire a social media marketer to manage it for you). Used well, Twitter can provide good exposure for your business, but you can also damage your brand with social media marketing if you're not careful, so it's worth learning the biggest do's and don'ts before you start using Twitter. Tip 1: Be Yourself and Be Human The beauty of Twitter is that it's a huge global community of human beings (mostly; there are spammer accounts but they're easy to spot, block and report). So do show your human side, especially when using your business account. Talk about things that matter to you: funny things your children say, recent achievements, your favorite band or TV show, and so on. Join in with conversations that interest...
